| - This is a difficult hotel to rate. At full price, I would never stay here. It is pretty nice, but not $150 a night or more nice. Luckily the reason that I was in Cleveland has a deal with the hotel for $59 per night. At that price, this place is awesome.
The room itself was pretty nice. There was no mini fridge, which was a bummer. I like to keep some cold beverages and a few snacks in my room when I travel, but not here. Otherwise, everything was nice. The bed was comfortable, the AC worked quite well, and the TV was a flat screen with a few HD channels and many more SD channels. Since I'm a bit of a frugal traveler, I usually get the crappy CRT tvs with barely visible basic cable. There is also quite a selection for room service if one likes paying movie theater prices for everything. The wifi was quite good and fast as well, which usually don't describe hotel wifi connections.
Housekeeping here is a bit odd... checkout is 11, yet they seem to want you out much earlier than that. Maybe I'm not awake before 9 if I don't have to be? Crazy I know... There were also a whole bunch of children on my floor for some event, and they were running up and down the halls being very loud after 11pm, which was pretty lame. On the plus side, the font desk staff is very nice and helpful, and the shuttle drivers are the same.
The one really good thing about this hotel is the free shuttle, which will take you many places within a reasonable distance. This is good, since there isn't much in the way of public transit in the small suburb of Independence. I'd definitely recommend a rental car for staying here... it's in a good location for a car, being right off the interstate to downtown, but not so good for other modes of transit.
To be honest, I cannot recommend this place. It's certainly a bit nicer than a budget hotel, but not 2-3x nicer. Unless you have a discount, you can do better.
