| - Okay, we went to the square for dinner. Headed to Old Fashioned, but there was a 45 minute wait--which isn't uncommon, but we were hungry, so we left. We considered Red Sushi, which is great, but decided to try Brocach instead. It was cold out, and hot fare (like Irish stew, Shepherd's Pie, etc.) sounded good.
It was not good.
Not at all.
To be fair, the bartender was nice, courteous, and attentive.
We got the Corned Beef with Mash and Cabbage, and the Pork Belly Sandwich (side of Lobster Bisk).
This was, without question, the worst food I've had in Madison. The Corned Beef smelled, and tasted, a bit like marijuana, making me wonder what they're doing back in the kitchen. The mashed potatoes had no flavor whatsoever, and neither did the cabbage. How do you F-up mashed potatoes? Just add butter and cream? Not only was it bland, but the portions were small. This was actually a blessing, because I didn't want to finish the food in front of me. The Pork Belly Sandwich had some odd cream sauce that would've hidden the fact that the pork belly had no flavor. Except that the sauce had no flavor.
No joke: The highlight of the meal was the side of pickles that came with the sandwich.
Extremely disappointing. I even ordered a Black & Tan, but they were out of English-style ale.
If you want a pint and to socialize, this place is fine. For food, this was nothing short of a disappointment.
