  • We did the Ales on Rails- Holiday Brews train ride. It was $50 per ticket and you pick your seats when you purchase tickets. I recommend buying your seats pretty far in advance. We wanted to do one of the wine rides, but the only seats remaining were individual seats, spread out. The ticket says to arrive 30 minutes early, but you really don't have to. The process is pretty quick, you just walk on to the train, no lines or anything to wait in. The ride itself is 2 hours. You go south for about 20 miles, and then head back. We were in the second car and the seats faced each other. You can pay more for a car that has an actual table. That would have been nice, but we were fine without one. Luckily this ride was at 2pm, and the fall colors were vibrant. It probably wouldn't have been as fun at night. The scenery was half the fun. Most of the employees are volunteers. Every single person we dealt with was cheerful, helpful and did a great job. Now the important part- the beer. First of all, you get a commemorative glass that you drink out of. We got to try 5 different beers. As a disclaimer to the thirsty folks out there- You don't get to drink 5 full beers. The glass is probably 8-10 ounces, and each pour was probably 6-8 ounces. They come by every 15 or so minutes and give you a new pour. There aren't opportunities to buy more beer or anything like that. If you came to get wasted, this isn't for you. The beers were strong though, so someone a little lighter than me would probably feel it a little more. There were times I finished by drink pretty quickly and had to wait it out, wishing I had another, but the scenery passed the time. The food- Every beer was accompanied by a food item. I didn't know this going on, and was pleasantly surprised. I probably didn't need to eat lunch in hindsight. We got a delicious cheese ball and crackers, pretzels and spinach dip, a small corned beef sandwich on a pretzel roll, a cup of tortellini & peppers with a dressing, and ginger bread cookies with small chocolates. There is a "party car" you can get seats in. They play music and people were dancing. More of your "YMCA" and "Love Shack" type of discography than any current music. All in all, we had a really good time, and certainly would do it again.
