| - What a strange experience...
Busy Friday night, out with a friend.
Waiter was... busy? Also inattentive until I made mention of not liking my food. His initial response to me saying I did not like my obviously un-eaten meal was, "Ok. Well... they may not take it off the bill... The chef makes that decision..."
Um. Ok... waited..
Then he came back to say, "They want to know what was wrong with the meal." To which I gave him feedback (I had the Matador: both the meat & fries tasted unseasoned).
... waited...
Back again with, "They said we have to charge you for half."
At that point, I ended up asking for a manager.
... waited...
The waiter returned to inform me that, "Because it's such a busy Friday night, the manager is trying to deal with stuff & they can't come over. But they went ahead and took the whole meal off your bill."
... Ok.
By then my friend had enough and went to speak to the manager himself.
My friend came back and said the manager had been very kind and understanding, agreeing that he had tasted some of the food and noticed it was a little off. He apologized for not coming over to the table, and agreed it should have been handled well. He also said he had told the waiter to let us know he was going to talk to the chefs about the quality of the food.
... so...
All the nonsense leading up to the conversation with the manager was so unnecessary. I don't know why/how/where the communication broke down, but a customer should not have to "testify" in detail to why they did not like their food. It was uneaten. I wasn't lying.
Unfortunately, as close to my home as this place is and as great as it had seemed going into it, I will not be returning.
It's one thing to have mediocre food OR mediocre service...
but you can't have both.
