  • I love Family Video. I know I'm one of the few people who still rent DVDs but I do so mostly to pick up seasons of tv shows (Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, etc.) as I don't use cable (Netflix only). There are a lot of shows that I want to see that aren't available on Netflix streaming. The prices are low and the selection is usually pretty good. Family Video is always open (or so it seems). 10am to midnight, I think. I feel like they're open on most holidays too. I went to Family Video for several years before I realized it had a section in the back devoted to porn. I guess based on the name of the store alone, I assumed there wouldn't be adult videos there. WRONG. So you can get your Butt Jammers 3 AND your daughter's My Little Pony DVD in the same trip. They offer free movie rentals for kids (not sure if that includes new releases). They also have a small selection of educational and other videos for free. They have a bunch of video games but I've never looked at what is available or the cost. They send coupons in the mail fairly regularly, and offer discount programs that are inexpensive (for example, pay $5 for the month and get all video rentals at half price for that month - or something like that). Not so long ago they called me after I hadn't been in for a few months and offered me a free DVD rental if I stopped in during the next weeks. They have an "nearly new" section with movies and tv shows that are all $1.00. This is what got me hooked on Family Video. New releases are still $3 or something like that. 95% of the time, the clerk checking you out will look at each DVD you're renting and if there are scratches or if they're dirty, etc., they'll clean them/fix them while you're checking out you so you don't get home and have to return because something won't play. The people who work there are awesome. Friendly, normal and genuine. Helpful and attentive. It's worth checking out if you've never been there.
