  • I was so excited to go up and stay at the mt Charleston lodge. Over the phone the service was great! The man over the phone was accommodating and funny even. Making our way out there was magical seeing all of the snow and admiring the mountains around us. We got in and the staff at the front desk was friendly. We then booked reservations for their restaurant and went to our room. Walking into the room immediately you couldn't ignore a very unclean stench. It wasn't the smell of smoke or anything like that. It just smelt dirty. We open the window to try to air it out but it doesn't really help. Next we tried to connect to the hotels wifi to see what other things we could do while waiting for our reservations and there is no cell service. This is understandable being up in the mountains but since there was nothing more that the hotel offered than food a bar a gift shop that was closed and some arcade games sprinkled around it made for a boring time. We went to the restaurant for our reservation and there were 3 tables where people were seated and eating with 2 people at each table so they were not busy. It took 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge that we were waiting to be seated. And after being acknowledged we waited at least another 10 minutes before actually being seated. After finally being seated we were excited for some good food, I ordered a salad and my husband ordered a steak and asked if they could Change out the side that comes with it for mac and cheese (he didn't mind to pay the difference if there was one) and the woman's answer was "no". No explanation, not even an effort to work with us. We received our food and the salad tasted dried out maybe even old and my husbands food was lack luster as well. As we waited for our server to come back around (which was not often) a girl came into the restaurant and was yelling about a fight she just got in out front of the lodge to her friend. Our waitress who we didn't really know if she was still alive because of her spacious service went running out front to go see what's going on along with 5 other staff members. I found the entire stay unprofessional and disappointing. If you do choose to go plan what you want to do before driving up the mountain and if you want to just get away bring some board games or something for when you're spending time indoors. Not a lot going on up there.
