  • I was a motorcyclist in the UK for years but hadn't been back on a bike for nearly a decade so I took the basic rider course. The course was as Joe described so I'll concentrate on other observations. We took the class at the worst time, possibly the 2nd hottest weekend of the year so let me assure you that their care and attention to detail re not letting your brain go to mush / dehydrate was welcomed. They have a fair selection of the major bike types, E.g 250 cruisers, 250 street bikes and an old 400 which I was lucky enough as having ridden prior. Free water, honor fund soda system and overall I think they presented material really well which is a national course , has some rough edges , not their fault but if you want a license pay attention:) that on the whole are way less damaging than no training. Please note this is the beginning it really doesn't mean you're a good rider when you pass it. You won't have cornered above 30mph, no rain , no dusk, no fricking idiots in cages so after you've been out in the wild a bit go back for the advanced training or just take the basic again, no seriously the latter wasn't a joke. I've since retaken this course , was free at work , with another company and I have to say that both were done well but the people and setup at Ridesmart were more "into" it. I took it on my real bike an 1100 v twin and it's amazing how much work you have to do to keep a large 110hp bike on course whereas a 250 is child's play and really instructive since I thought I was pretty good;) Meeee! It's a lifetime of learning on a bike .. try to make it a long one
