Mac and Three (more sides of that mac and cheese for this vegetarian), please!
I was hoping that this spot would remind me of Tom's Home Cookin' in Denver, and Chef Chris never disappoints. Follow Bread and Butter on facebook and you will see how incredibly generous he is with his customers. This is food cooked with love and attention to detail, including my favorite mac and cheese in town and super tasty pudding cups. Pimento cheese? There's a sandwich from my childhood. Fried brussels sprouts were good, but a bit greasy with some burnt leaves. I still prefer roasted brussels. The sweet potato croquettes were served with a slight spicy cream sauce that was one word: addictive. My husband finished full portions of roasted and fried chicken, clearly pleased with both, but he said the roasted chicken was better. All the entrees and sides had a gourmet twist, in contrast to the traditional southern flavors of my memories.
The strawberry shortcake pudding cup was a quality dessert packed with fresh vanilla bean and strawberry flavor. I just wish the food was served by grannies with southern accents. While I live far from Mac and Three, it's still a shorter trip than Cracker Barrel. I'm not about to say which restaurant I'm more likely to end up at. I bet Chef Chris and the guys could cook up some killer fried okra, and I would drive across town to try it!
