  • At first glance Ingear a very cute little shop in a great location in the heart of Kensington. You walk in and think to yourself "Wow this place looks like it has everything!" Then you look... and look... and look... and eventually you walk out after 45 minutes of picking through cliché albeit moderately tasteful knick knacks; usually empty handed. I would describe this store as 'The perfect stop for tourists in the area looking to spend their money on something or people looking for a gift for an acquaintance or someone they generally have no clue what to buy for." In a nutshell; you will find a lot of things that are nice to open and look at for a couple minutes, but for the most part; nobody REALLY wants. There are some things like cloths and backpacks that seem to be good quality, but the prices are outrageous. Think $180+ for a soft-shell jacket or a light daypack. At that point just go to MEC. Also, their stock is an issue; particularly with clothing. Unless you are showing up right after they receive a seasonal shipment, I wouldn't expect to find the size you are looking for. There one saving grace is there locally sourced jewellery. Not a huge interest for me, but my girlfriend enjoys looking around at their large selection and claims the prices are very reasonable for what it is. Notably, she hasn't actually bought anything yet. Everyone has different taste I suppose. Now for service... ugh; I'm not sure how to handle this one. I would say the staff are eager to help, but have a bit of an attitude. Lets say "standoffish". I had a bit of an altercation with them, but in their defence I was a bit cranky as I had been in there a few times with a gift card and for the life of me I couldn't find anything to spend it on. I get the feeling they are very used to tourists and spinsters telling them how cute and amazing there shop is and aren't very well equipped to handle an unhappy customer. It is what it is. A bit of pretension but I'm sure one could make the argument that this adds to the charm of the store. I digress. If your mother is in town, you just had lunch and a glass of wine and you are walking down Kensington looking to kill some time; pop by. It's a nice way to kill a half hour on a lazy weekend. She may even find a nice souvenir to take home with her. If you are hunting for something specific for yourself or your home; Ingear will probably be time well wasted.
