  • Five years to the date and I feel like it's a good idea to update this review. I mean, it's amazing how much has changed in the Pittsburgh craft brew scene since I first reviewed East End Brewing Company. Even East End has changed. Nay, improved. The taproom at the brewery on Julius Street is now a great place to enjoy a pint (couldn't do that before) and fill a growler even if you want to pay with a credit or debit card (couldn't do that before either). Sadly, parking is still in short supply. Then there is the beer. East End has stayed true to its roots with flagship brews like Big Hop and Fat Gary Nut Brown Ale. And then there's newer choices like Strawberrye (a fruit beer) and Wheat Hop, two of my favorites from East End. They also still sell Barmy Soda (root beer and ginger ale) which is some of the best I've ever had. All this from a brewery that is very conscious of its impact on the community and the environment. I had deducted one star in my previous review due to their limited growler hours. I'm happy to report that not only have their hours expanded but so has their empire. Next stop, East End Taproom in the Strip!
