| - 3 1/2 stars, rounded down for some service issues. Nice location with a patio looking out on Main St, good, fresh food, acceptable service.
I came here on a friend's suggestion and enjoyed my meal. I had the jungle curry; when I ordered it, I was cautioned by the server that it was "really spicy" and water-based, rather than coconut milk-based. I appreciated the warning, but went with it anyway. It did in fact turn out to be pretty spicy, but being the pepper belly that I am, I was fine with it. But for somebody who doesn't appreciate spiciness as much as I do, this warning would be really important, because the dish would be inedible to such a person. After that warning, though, the service got rather screwy (though still friendly). When our 3 dishes came out, they weren't really our 3 dishes. Mine was right, but the other 2 were not. After being notified of this, the server took back 1 dish and came back with another...which also wasn't correct. Finally, the third time was a charm, and my sister got her dish. Not a horrible experience, but it took off a half star from my rating.
So, the food. We started with the Thai Toast, which is a nice little deep-fried creation. This isn't typically my type of food, but I really like the onion and cucumber sauce we put on top of it. My jungle curry was pretty solid, with a lot of veggies, which I always appreciate. I really enjoyed my sister's pad thai (once she got it, that is); it had a different taste from most pad thais I've had in the past, and I really enjoyed the uniqueness. Good, solid Thai food--not the best I've had, but good stuff.
The service could be improved, but this is a good option when in Downtown Mesa.
