  • this place is like the worst combination of IKEA and every furniture store your parents ever took you to as a kid. I walked in the front door, past several sales people, and no one acknowledged me. One sales guy further in the building said hey, nice shirt, and then turn around and walked the other way. whatever, you don't go to these places for their outstanding service. what I did go there for was to buy a new office chair after my fat ass broke my last one. find one that I like, but the color isn't my first choice. no biggie, the chair is like $79 so I can't complain. walk all the way back to the front of the store to try and buy it, kid at the register says I need a sales person to buy one. he flags Lynn over, but she is excited to tell me they don't have any more of this chair in stock and won't until mid-June. I ask if I can buy a floor model, as they have no less than 3 of the exact same chair just chilling in the home office area. Lynn is also excited to tell me they DO NOT sell floor models, even floor models they have multiples of, for any reason. I was so stunned that a SALESperson was telling me no to a sale, that I just walked out. my guess is their main source of revenue growth comes from the company founder's auto-biography that they have stacked all over each register and apparently sell for $9.95. pretty clever way to break into the publishing industry if you ask me, pretending to be a furniture wholesaler. I hear random house publishing started ostensibly as a meat packaging facility, so it must be a common publishing industry trick. also the hand dryers in their bathroom are made by Mitsubishi. that's right, the same company that made kamikaze fighter jets in WW2. American Furniture Warehouse? more like Axis Furniture Warehouse
