  • I was killing time in the neighborhood waiting to shop with a friend and saw the great reviews on Yelp. I won't lie, being a Soul Food spot, I wanted to see if there were any reviews from Black people who said it was good...a legitimate metric! The reviews did not lie. Customer service was great. The owner came from behind the counter to explain the menu on the wall to newbies who lingered. Your food is cooked fresh, so expect to wait 15 minutes or so for your order. The restaurant has seating for about 20 customers, and a couple of tables on a small patio. Very unpretentious, but clean. It's all about the food. I ordered the one piece spicy catfish combo, which came with two pieces of shrimp,two sides and a drink for six bucks. Really??? And it was plenty. The fish was well-seasoned, piping hot and not greasy. The collard greens were good. Not bland, but not as flavorful as my taste buds prefer. Nothing a packet of hot sauce can't solve. But they won at having a smoky flavor without being greasy. The jalapeño hush puppies? Pure perfection! I added the peach cobbler, which was wonderful. I like lots of crust, and it delivered. In a nutshell, I will drive out of my way to come back. It's worth the drive.
