| - Cold Stone Creamery, first let me say that your ice cream is delicious. Your establishment is clean and your prices are fairly reasonable but your customer service is not up to par. I patronized this location twice in the past month and my first experience was fine. I had the waffle cone with chocolate ice cream with peanut butter and brownies and my two daughters had the Oreo ice cream in a waffle cone and though we cringed a little at the price, which was around 7 plus buck, we found that it was worth it as an occasional treat.
Now, what I didn't like. It's Halloween and my teen says, "Mom, i just want to go somewhere and have ice cream. Can we go to Cold Stone?" And being the good mother that I am, I say yes! We checked the yelp app to see the closing time and I was surprised that it said 10pm because that seemed kind of late so I called to double check. I was told on the phone that it was 9:30 and sure enough there was sign that had winter hours listed and they indeed were closing at 9:30. But not only did the yelp app give us the hours but we also noticed that they had a check in offer of 10% off your order and when I showed it to the cashier she said we couldn't use it and that they only accepted coupons from the CSC website. She also said that the offer had to be for that specific location and I showed her that it was. She was still baffled and mentioned that she had never seen a yelp check in offer before and I let her know, again, that it was yelp and that I wasn't making this up and they were the ones who would have had to put it on there. She said that she wouldn't honor it and that it was "Only 50 cents!" Yes, she said that! I told her that I thought her comment was rude and yes, it's only 50 cents but it was more the principle behind it. She then said, well you can use it on your order but my daughters order was my order too and my other teen had her yelp app open and ready to use. I said never mind, because she had already checked us out but I asked her for the managers name. She gave it to me and told me he would be in the next day. In all my years of using check in offers, this has never happened and she really just had no clue what to do. But then, a lady and a gentlemen who were a few customers behind me, tried to use it as well and then a "discussion" ensues between the two and I step up and say, I had the same issue. I guess seeing that I was indeed not delusional or making things up she honored his and then refunded us. What irks me is, why did this other couples word get honored but I got the, "it's only 50 cents" comment?
All three employees present were baffled by this check in offer and I even suggested that it might be a good idea to call Tyler, the manager but initially it was just "nope, I'm not going to honor it because I don't know what it is and I don't know how to do it." Do they not tell their employees how to do a 10% discount? Maybe not! So, if you ever see a check in offer at this location, call ahead first to make sure they know what it is and what to do. It might just be 50, 60 or 70 cents but principle and good business practices are worth that meager amount. Don't post it, if you don't want to honor it.
This left a sour taste in my mouth and I won't likely return any time soon. I'll just have to check out that other Marble Slab place and see if they measure up. I'll be calling Tyler tomorrow and will post an update.
That is all!
