| - After viewing 5 complexes we found in apartments.com magazine, we stopped at Apartment Finders.
As we are transitioning from San Diego to Tempe (after a 20-year absence from the Valley), we arrived with some very specific criteria along with a few things we were willing to be flexible on. Our northern limit was Rio Salado Parkway, our southern border Ray Road, to the east was McClintock and to the west, Priest. We prefer 2 bedrooms and, of course, low application and administrative fees, as fees are money not returned. The top end of our price range being $750.00, we were curious to see what Jay found. The "dream amenity" we wanted: a gas stove. If you have ever searched for housing in Arizona, this is probably the most difficult amenity to find.
Jay is OUTSTANDING! He took about 90 minutes to narrow down our wants/needs/desires and came up with 4 choices for us to look further into. 3 of the 4 were adequate, and the fourth was absolutely perfect!
His computer brought up lots of examples. As we worked our way through the list, Jay would throw out random questions about what we thought of a property that had a certain amenity, and if we were willing to stretch our street boundaries just a bit. He showed us the listing, including a floor plan with each property. As we worked on the list, Jay called each property to see if there was availability for our move-in date and getting clarity on discounts/promotions being offered.
We narrowed down the plethora of available properties to 4 based on price, layout, location and availability. Jay even suggested the order he would view each property, saying that if he understood our choices correctly, we would probably be happiest with the last choice, though any of the 4 certainly would fit our wants. We headed out from the Mill and Baseline address to 48th and Ray Road for the first complex. Nice. The second complex was 46th and Baseline in Phoenix. Property looked great; the leasing person behind the desk was rather lame. Third choice: Baseline between Hardy and Priest in Tempe, another great property. Finally, Mill Avenue and Hermosa, which gave us the best combination of all the considerations, specifically rent, fees, location and amenities.
Jay found us the pinnacle of our amenities...a gas stove!
Before going on the search by yourself, stop by and talk to Jay! There is no cost to use the service, and it will certainly help you narrow down your search!
