| - Located towards the northern end of the main Strip, TI isn't a bad choice. Once part of the MGM/Mirage empire, it's now independently owned. This is bad if you're a member of the MGM/Mirage family and want to earn comps that you can transfer between resorts; TI is it's own thing now. But... I oddly just have more fun playing the tables here than at other resorts. It comes down to the people. The dealers are personable and funny. Table games -- same odds and expectations as the other resorts, but see if they have better Craps odds or single-deck during the day. Slots -- always been pretty tight since they broke away from MGM/Mirage. But honestly, they have good slot games, so I find myself having fun even though I don't win as much. Bottom line: If you're on a budget, don't expect to win a lot off of slots, but they have a decent variety.
TI peddles lots of coupons, especially to Kahunaville, their Pan-American restaurant. In the old days, it was great, with "dancing" water/light shows, but I find that they sometimes restrict access to the main dining hall due to lack of patrons, and they shove you into the bar. Once, I found they even blocked the water show in the dining hall with a giant projector screen for a sports event. Sad, but I realize tourism is down in Vegas. But the food is pretty good.
Tip: Right across the street from a major 3-story Fashion Show Mall, and they have an escalator and walkway to get you there.
Tip: There's a quick tram that will take you to the Mirage, but verify its hours if you're going to the Mirage for a late night show.
Tip: To get to Caesar's or Harrah's easily: take the Tram to the Mirage, enter Mirage, going south through the casino past the deli and burger places, out the glass doors by the tigers, which will dump you off at a corner where you can cross the street to Harrah's or Caesar's in the other direction. This bypasses a lot of the street walking.
Tip: Because Gilley's is a major cowboy bar there, check the Las Vegas Convention Center website (vegas.com) and look up the various conventions held in the area. Try to avoid staying during rodeo season if you don't like crowds.
Tip: Parking Structure - Try to park on Level 3, which will lead you straight into the casino level without having to use elevators. There's an interior escalator that will drop you down to the casino level where the hotel elevators are. Otherwise you have to take garage elevators to Level 3.
Tip: Arriving by car - consider pulling up front and having your car put in valet. It's a trek from the parking structure to the hotel elevators, so I usually arrive and valet, having my bags sent to my room. Then later retrieve my car to drive around town, but eventually park in the structure. When I check out, I'll usually make a trek to the parking garage, but this limits it to one time. FYI... the valets rock, so tip them well, as with your baggage person.
Tip: Yeah, they have the free pirate show, but it sucks compared to the original. It's all "smexy" now and dumbed down for the foreigners. Keep this in mind, as there is always a rush into the casino area after each show.
