  • Old man Earnhardt's slogan is "no bull", but yes, there is PLENTY of bull here. I bought a new vehicle here not too long ago. In the end, after MUCH 1970's-style back-and-forth haggling, I got the car I wanted for (nearly) the price that I know to be competitive. But in hindsight, I could have got it at any other VW dealer for much less of a hassle. Here was the bull I experienced, and you will too if you decide to shop here. Their initial deal was the (very common) car I wanted at full MSRP(!) with my trade being thousands less than fair market trade-in. Most dealerships with dignity/shame won't pitch MSRP as the actual price. But not Earnhardt San Tan VW. At least part of the deficit of their initial trade offer was that my car was improperly assessed. Significant, obvious options (nav, moonroof, and more) were omitted. The initial offer included trying to charge me, wait for it, $600 (!) for the cheap, dealer-grade window tint that was already on it. (Premium tint at a shop will run you about $200.) In addition to the ridiculous window tint charge, there were the usual automotive snake oil add-ons, such as interior protection, etc. I didn't get mad though. I countered with a nearly equally unrealistic offer of my own. (Why not, right? A little rhetoric never hurt anyone.) Then the next offer came in. They graciously decided to nix the interior snake oil, and waive the charge for the cheap tint. Ok, we're moving in the right direction but their dollar figures were still way off. During the haggling, I was repeatedly told that they are the "#1 VW dealer in the state!". Ok...so...what the hell does that mean for me? Nothing, of course, and judging by how dead the place was during a day and time that they should have been busy, I don't know what they're number one at. It was just funny because how does being a self-described #1 entice me to pay more than market value for a car deal? Some more back and forth ensued until I said no thanks. The sales person went to get a manager (i.e. the closer). Some more back and forth ensued. We FINALLY arrived at a point where I was comfortable with the deal. So, onto finance where more bull transpired. The monthly payment went up from what I agreed to with sales because of a made-up oversight. It wasn't a lot, but it was BS. They (presumably) sell a car or two almost everyday, so this oversight want really an oversight. I didn't walk because it just wasn't worth it. If I could do it again, I'd have went to a different VW dealer.
