This once beautiful, multi million dollar facility which was considered "The Place To Be", was once the center of fun, entertainment and excitement for not only travelers, but locals as well. In the 1980s' and 1990s', when people were actually better behaved and more enjoyable to be around, there were social events, singles dances and various functions which drew them to resorts such as this, especially on weekends. Even during the week, there would be "Happy Hours" which entailed small plates and free munchies from the facility, provided you purchased a beverage. This was a way to provide the consumer an incentive to come to this facility and a way to promote the business. People actually enjoyed this type of "Happy Hour" and felt like there was something to look forward to at the days end. Unfortunately, corporate greed and lack of judgement have taken such things away and left the consumer feeling like we are only numbers without faces.
This once beautiful, once well kept and welcoming place has definitely declined. The staff here are lazy, careless, unethical, uncaring and unprofessional for the most part. I noted the men's bathroom in the main lobby needed to be cleaned, this being the precise moment after the cleaning woman removed her cart after having supposedly cleaned it. I noted the dirt and grime all over the tops of the urinals and chrome plumbing attached to them, so I deliberately used a handful of wet paper towels and the green hand soap, smearing large amounts of the green soap all over these chrome handles and plumbing fixtures, to make it extremely obvious that they need to be cleaned. This I did on Thursday evening. Upon my trip to that same bathroom on Sunday evening, I noted the green hand soap was all dried on the fixtures and had not even so much as been attempted to be cleaned. The pee stains on the partition walls and floor space were still visible and I noticed many other similar issues.
While looking from the window of my room on the 6th floor, I noticed the gross negligence of the main cabana at the hotel entrance. I noted the obvious cracks and the lack of paint, the large amount of uncleaned bird droppings, the unremoved debris and trash as well as the over all appearance of a delapidated state of the entire property as it is obvious there has been a lack of effort to maintain it for some time. I find it terribly sad and get the impression that the number one concern seems to be profit and the absolute last thing on the minds of the management and staff is the impression or satisfaction of the hotel guests.
While watching bus loads of foreigners unload in the middle of the night, one gets the impression this hotel has become a sort of refugee center or drop point. One look around and you get the impression of being in a third world country.
The pool area was completely over run with loud and obnoxious youngsters, who likely didn't even have parents staying here. Many were observed rushing the gates when guests opened them. There were grown, adult age people actually using the pool as their toilet and I heard one woman admit it to her friends as she explained to her friend, that she didn't want to walk all the way to the restroom. My child also made me aware that one restroom by the slide, had poop smeared all over on the walls. We are extremely disappointed in the staff, who failed at every turn along the way. The security was terribly lame and ineffective. Vagrants and street people come and go at their own will while the staff and security are inattentive. Nobody around this place smiles or gives an impression they like to work here or have been trained. The only employees I noted as being pleasant, friendly and guest oriented, were the individuals who were signing in guests at the front desk and the bar tenders in the main lounge, which by the way, is significantly over priced and far less welcoming in atmosphere than it was several years back, as I remember it.
Having surveyed many of the hotels in this area, I quickly realized how deplorable the area is becoming, due to lack of care and the entire greed above good standards mindset. I thought staying at this hotel (Sheraton) would be a blessing and pleasant, but in reality, the experience is disenchanting. The fact that piles of debris remain in the corners where they were swept days before; the obvious mismatching of light bulbs in various locations of sequenced light fixtures, as well as the lack of effort to change them with matching bulbs of the same wattage and color; the gobs of bird crap left on patios, chairs and walk ways; the cracks in walls, faded and over used atrificial turf out back, the unmanicured and incorrectly pruned landscape, the dead palm tree which has obviously been dead for a long time and is still rotting and falling down, which will eventually land on a guest; These are just a few observations.
