| - I was last at Rogers Centre (aka SkyDome) about 15 years ago. Even though I am from Western NY, my family are Braves fans. I got my brother tickets for Christmas and we headed up the 2nd weekend of the season.
MLB has new entry procedures for the 2015 season including metal detectors, bag searches, etc. I felt the Rogers Centre staff processed these promptly and easily 30 minutes before the game. All staff I encountered were friendly, though most seemed pretty "green", like a lot of kids with their first jobs.
It was a shame on probably the nicest day in a long time, if Toronto's winter was anything like Buffalo's, (Saturday, 65 degrees, sunny, and no chance of rain) that the dome was closed. I guess I should blame R.A. Dickey, but it is still ridiculous and takes away from the game.
A couple issues: My seat was covered in something sticky. Almost like poutine gravy or ketchup. It was on the edge, the back, etc. I had to go get wet tissue from the bathroom and was obviously scrubbing it. None of the ushers noticed me with no one around to help. I'd keep an eye out. Glad I didn't get it all over my brand new jersey.
Food items are spread out far. We were next to the 200 level food clubhouse area with in-seat service, so not many walking concessions people came down where we were on the aisle. There are large gaps of nothing in the concourse area. None of the food things jumped out at me, though we had eaten elsewhere earlier, so I just went with and ice cream bar which I had to go about 10 sections over for. My brother went to the bar area in the 200s and got at least a craft style IPA, but still 11 dollars Canadian. (Luckily the exchange is favorable at 1.25 USD right now).
Though Rogers Centre allowing outside food is great. I stopped at Tim's and got a water for my brother and I and brought some snack packs of trail mix with us too. This is great for kids and parents who have picky little ones on for those not trying to gain 5lbs/spend too much money.
Jays fans were into the game, which was fun to see. We could only see about 10 other Braves fans below or next to us and no one gave us trouble when we cheered. It was a fun, friendly atmosphere.
Thank you Rogers also for the excellent WiFi! I heard this had recently rolled out. Considering roaming is astronomical for us coming from the US, it was fun to still be able to post photos and follow Twitter during the game. We had no issues connecting and it was very fast. Even though Rogers Centre is showing its age and doesn't have much of the amenities of more up-to-date ballparks, it is still a great way to see MLB (though I am glad my Bills are done with "home games" here!)
