| - My husband and I stayed at the Aloft for 4 days while we were visiting Carowinds. Originally we had planned on staying close to the theme park, but at the last minute we decided to see what we could find close to City Center so that we'd have more to do while we were there. I found a great rate through the hotel's website that was much cheaper than the other hotels in the area, so we decided to give it a shot.
The location (Epicenter) of the hotel was perfect for exploring Uptown. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go and only had to use our car when we went to Carowinds. The rooms, although on the small side, were also very nice. However, because this hotel is located in the Epicenter, the elevators were a problem. From your room you have to take the elevator down to the lobby and then switch to another elevator to get to street level or to the parking garage. This wouldn't have been a problem, except since the Aloft is a part of the Epicenter, the elevators were always full and we had to wait an especially long time to get to/from our room.
Another issue that we had with this hotel was that we opted out of room service in order to receive a $5/night credit which we were told could be used for anything we purchased at the hotel. However, after ordering drinks at the WXYZ Bar, they wouldn't allow us to use the vouchers for alcohol, so we ended up having to pay full price for our drinks and had no choice but to use the credit on overpriced snacks in the lobby. Next time we travel to Charlotte, I'll probably do a little more research and try to find a similarly priced hotel in the immediate area, but in the event that I can't, back to the Aloft it will be. Overall, especially for the price, it was a good choice.
