  • Run from this company. Shoddy work - shady tactics. Think elsewhere. Installed AC - TRANE and it was a nightmare from the beginning. The salesman measured inaccurately the attic opening for the air handler replacement and as a result the installers had to dissemble the entire unit and put it back together. It was beat up pretty bad as a result. When they new unit arrived and they began to unload the air handler for the attic and were bringing it into the house, it had a huge dent in the side. I mentioned to the installer and he said oh, ok. I said can we get another unit. That should have been my first clue to cull the deal. They were actually going to install a damaged air handler. Are you starting to see the pattern. Apparently they did a poor job of reassembly. The cabinet was not properly secured and panels not screwed back, creating some air leaks. We were unaware of this until a few years later when having our tech service the unit. A few weeks after the original install our ceiling above the bathroom where the air handler sits began to leak and fall in. They installed the condensation drains improperly and we had to have ALASKA come back out and fix the drain and repair the ceiling. Now our condenser has failed and we find out that although we have a warranty, Alaskan did not register our units with TRANE. I find that odd to say the least. When we called them to report our problem we were told that we have voided the warranty because we did not use their annual service tech each year. But we have been using our own service for our summer checks and repairs and there are records for the trips. So they maintain almost gleefully that we have voided our warranty. Hold on to that thought. We bought a TRANE unit for over $7,000.00. We paid Alaskan Air to install and I am presume they paid Trane for the unit cost. And I bet that if we were in "their warranty" and a repair and parts were needed they would go right back to Trane for the warranty work. Apparently the paperwork required they do all the work which on the surface smacks of generating additional income stream. We paid for the unit and we own the unit and should own the warranty with Trane the manufacturer, not ALASKAN Air. Based on my phone conversation with the lady at Alaskan Air her attitude was snarky, but she said she was not snarky. Trust me I know snarky and I know dismissive. When I asked if TRANE had a warranty she said she did not know. I asked - you don't know if TRANE has a warranty and she did not know and referred me to TRANE. Been in the business how long? I have to think that without a doubt if a part or repair was necessary they would have filed a claim with TRANE. So why cannot we have our own service tech we have used for years instead of being locked into ALASKAN Air? And why didn't they register the unit with Trane to begin with. Trane has said they have no record of sale or registration. Makes me wonder if they got the units from some place other than TRANE. There should be no harm in registering. Something is shady here. There are plenty of HVAC companies. Find another one that is honest. I have called a few and they all said they register the units they sell and give the homeowner the paperwork. They said that they do not lock a customer into their service. Its optional. So Alaskan is running a scheme or why wouldn't they register with the manufacturer. Maybe they think many people will forget to use them and go with another HVAC company and not have to cover - warranty void like us. Run from this company. Shoddy work - shady tactics.
