  • Stacys was kind of like one of those movies that everyone hypes up. You hear all this chatter about how you have to see it. How it is the best movie in such a long time. Some people are even shocked because you are the last person in the world that hasnt seen it. Then you finally get the chance to be part of this great phenomenon and it is an utter disappointment. Stacys Smokehouse is in a small purple building off the 51 and Indian School Rd. If you blink, you miss kind of deal. The inside is clean. Plain white walls with some picture frames on them. There is a note that read something to the effect that it is private property and do not touch anything on the walls and parents dont let your kids either or you will pay for it. I thought that was a nice touch. Not very many seats. Maybe half a dozen no frills table and chairs seating arrangements. I ordered from Stacy directly. Not a very friendly guy and didnt seem happy to see a customer but he was not out right rude either. I ordered the large pork sandwich, small sides of mac and cheese, fried okra, with a sweet iced tea to drink. To back it up a little when I arrived the parking lot only had a few cars in it so I thought I lucked out but I still had to wait almost 20 minutes to get a seat. Thats how small the place is. After waiting another 10 minutes while seated my food finally came out. The food was cold and on the dry side. I'm willing to bet all of the food had been reheated up left overs from the previous night. I finished half of my tea by the time this cold and dry food came out and after dropping nearly 15 bucks I didnt really have the desire to spend another "75ยข plus tax" for a refill as the sign read at the front. The sandwich was anything but special. The meat was flavorful but a bit on the cool and dry side. The sauce was flavorful but not as savory as Honey Bears and didnt pack the punch that Famous Daves Devils Spit has. It would have been really nice if there was a bottle of sauce on the table to add some more to my meal. The sandwich came with a regular store bought sesame seed bun. It was plain and dry and did nothing for the delivery of the meat. I was pretty disappointed that the meat had some potential in flavor but never got off the ground due to the bread and sauce. The mac and cheese was definitely cheesy but it was also on the cool side. The mac had regular macaroni noodles and pleanty of cheese. It could have used some crunch to balance out the texture. Of course if it was hot and fresh that would have been a plus as well. The fried okra may have been the most disappointing. The breading was horrible. Plain corn meal speckled on quarter inch pieces of okra. There was nothing to dip the okra in or eat it with. After the first half a dozen or so it felt like I was just forcing the plain dry pieces down my throat for the sake of getting my monies worth. This review may sound a bit negative but you have to understand that I was anticipating something exceptional after all the build up. I wasnt expecting just another run of the mill bbq stand. Overall, I would say I was disappointed in the entire experience. It seemed like I showed up late to a bbq that I was never even invited to. I might go back one day just to see if I may have missed it but I am by no means clearing out my schedule.
