| - My mom and I went here yesterday for lunch and I've been wanting to come for the past couple of months due to all the good reviews I've read. I was a little disappointed with the food some, because I had super great expectations.
I loved eating at 3-6-9 in the Los Angeles and Silicon Valley areas and Taiwan Food Express doesn't compare to the restaurants in California. There was another restaurant that did serve this type of food that I loved at Warner/McQueen, but they closed down a long time ago.
We had the Steamed Pork Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) and I thought these were really small. They tasted good and were juicy. However, i'm used to eating these with a lot of sliced ginger. We asked for more ginger, but they really didn't give it to us.
The onion cakes were okay, but I felt they were pan fried too much and they were very small and thin. Once again, I'm used to bigger onion cakes that are thicker and flakier.
We had rice cake noodles or Nian Gao and the rice cake noodles were a big on the tough side, like they weren't cooked enough. This was the most disappointing dish of all and not as much flavor as I last had it. I won't be getting this again.
Lastly, we had Shanghai Noodles and this was good. It tasted like I remembered so of the 4 things we got, this was decent.
Oh, and my mom ordered a Papaya Slush and I ordered a Lychee Slush Boba. Both these were delicious and really good. I especially loved the Lychee Slush Boba.
The prices were alright, so not an issue. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I guess at least it wasn't too bad, so I'll give it 4 stars. The service was fine, everyone courteous. So that is good.
