  • **SUMMERLICIOUS REVIEW* I decided to check out Origin's outpost in Liberty Village. Having previously dined at the King/Church location I must say this one isn't as good. While it is more massive, the food is infinitely better at the original location. While Claudio Aprile has expressed his hate for bloggers, I am going to blog about my Summerlicious restaurant anyways - O'Canada - freedom of speech. Origin is what I would call an Asian fusion restaurant serving up tapas-style plates which are meant for sharing. Be prepared to order a few dishes to satiate yourself and yes the bill will add up. Ka-ching. Their Summerlicious dinner menu is decently priced at $25 - I only wish I knew that the Calamari (main) and Bangkok Beef Salad (appetizer) would taste virtually the same save for a swap in protein. I don't know about you, but I think if I had only 3 options per course, that I wouldn't choose things with the same flavour profile - just saying. Not a huge fan of the cocktails here either - had the Blood Orange Margarita made with Tequila Tromba - suffice it to say that the boys reppin' Tromba make infinitely better cocktails than the one I had at Origin. The Dark & Stormy was alright if not a tad watered down. Despite the coincidence of ordering a main and app that tasted the same I will say that the Bangkok Beef Salad was well-executed, with peanuts, mango, glass noodles and nam jim. I loved it. The Calamari, virtually tasted the same, though the crispiness was compromised by being drenched in the nam jim sauce. Dessert was my favourite part of dinner as I rekindled my favourite Dulce de Leche with lemon sponge, yogurt and frozen raspberries. A little taste of the molecular gastronomy that is Colborne Lane famedom and which put Claudio Aprile on the map. From texture to taste, this hit all the taste buds. The Chocolate Torte was served with caramelized bananas... you can definitely taste the quality of the chocolate being used in this dense cake and the presentation was lovely but of the two, not my favourite dessert. Service was extremely quick and our dishes came out like bang, bang, bang. The server was attentive without being intrusive. At the end of my meal I was left wanting (probably should've ordered another dish). As I once said before, when it comes to Asian fusion in Toronto - nobody does it better than Susur Lee. He's the master.
