  • A bit on thew side of the beaten tourism path (but not too much), Le Poisson Rouge serves fresh, seafood-focused French cuisine. With a limited menu of savory choices, the place serves an experience on par with a high quality Parisian bistro with the very frugal pricing of Montreal's foodsphere. While we had reservations for the night we went, the chief server couldn't find ours. Instead of turning us away, or having to bring the chef out of her kitchen (the chef handles email reservations), our host offered us a passable table. This, combined with the fact that we were easily much younger than the restaurant's crowd that night made me fear we'd have mediocre service at best. Imagine my surprise when I noticed the chief server going out of her way to ensure we had as good an experience as possible. She guided us through the day's menu, and my beautiful partner snagged the last available Scallops appetizers. This actually made me happy, showing that the chef made limited numbers of dishes, likely based on the fresh stock she got each day. The 4 service meal was exquisite and this place became one of our favourite restaurants in Montreal.
