| - Wow, there is some SERIOUS attitude going on with the staff here.
I dropped in one snowy January afternoon with a friend. Both of us had purchased a FabFind coupon and decided to check it out. Located directly off Highway 401 from the Keele exit, we found free parking for Wynn clients directly in front of the building. As we walked in, there was no one at the counter. I turned my head as I noticed a staff member banging on her glass office window, shouting, "Yes?! How can I help you?" Instead of her getting up and greeting us, she was expecting us to walk towards her. We showed her our coupons and she got us signed in. I shrugged it off, determined not to let one person ruin my day.
My friend and I were most interested in checking out the fitness classes and tried Body Blast - a 1-hour long muscle conditioning class. The fitness instructor, Gabriela, was very warm, lead the session well and even patiently helped my friend learn how to do proper lunges when we spoke with her after the class. At the end, she smiled and asked us for both our names, shook our hands and thanked us for attending her class.
The only issue I had with this class was the lack of small weights (i.e. 5 lbs, 8 lbs). I ended up sharing with another woman but went without when she needed to do her reps with her 5s. She told me to show up earlier next time if I wanted to get my hands on the small ones.
The women's changeroom was very clean and extremely spacious. I like the set-up of the showers, which had a small partition where you could hang up your clothes, change after you're done, without sacrificing any privacy. Soap was available in each stall, but there wasn't any shampoo or body wash.
After we were finished, we went back upstairs. We had to wait another 15 minutes before a sales rep took us into our office. The rep, Rodger, gave one look at us and decided that we were never going to purchase a membership. He also didn't seem impressed when we said we were both unemployed.
I asked about the memberships and when I politely requested him to write down the price for me on his business card, he sarcastically asked why I needed one number to be written down. "You don't need this written down, it's just one number," trying to convince us that it was completely unnecessary. He promptly placed his business card back in his holder, relieved that he didn't have to waste a piece of paper on me. At the end of the conversation, he threw his hands up and said, "Well that's it!", continuing to sit back in his chair, making no effort to get up, shake my hand or thank me for coming in. I don't think I've ever had a business refuse me a business card; obviously he doesn't want our business or think that we were worth his time.
There are a lot of things going for this gym - great location, new and clean equipment and challenging classes - the service from the staff doesn't match the potential that this gym has. While we'll be coming back to finish our 20-class pass, I doubt I'll ever becoming a long-term client here.
