My friend has been raving about this place, specifically the oxtail soup...so we decided to make a stop at midnight. Make sure you call in advance just in case. They start serving at 11pm, but I guess they have ran out before. You don't want to make the trip all the way out there for nothing.
Location/ambience: dive cafe located in a grungy Asian-dominated hotel in downtown. A type of place I would go for a specific dish and that would probably be it. I could totally see this place in Triple D.
Service: lots of older Asian servers. Pretty friendly. Our service was fast Apparently the wait could be really long on some night. No complaints today.
Food: the server knew right away what we were after. 5 oxtail soups. We also threw in a NY steak plate since it was only $6.99. Soup came out with. 5-10 mins. Good size portion with 3-4 big fatty pieces of oxtail. Also comes with 1 big scoop of rice and side of cilantro and ginger. The soup base flavor was delicious. I love how the cilantro and ginger favors accompanied it. There were some veggies included. Once u dump the rice in, it becomes a very hearty stew. The oxtail was a tad tougher than I would have liked. I wonder if we had come in the early morning, would it have been more tender (longer cooking time). It also got s tad messy trying to extract the meat from the bone. But the flavor was just so good. Every bite was delicious. You definitely get food coma after. The NY STeak was just ok. But for $7! How can u complain.
Value: I thought was excellent. $10 for this dish in Vegas is good and worth it.
I kinda wish that this place was closer...but then again they would be charging $19.99 for it. I would definitely return.
