| - I was visiting Las Vegas from Palm Springs, and the AC in my 1990 Mercedes wasn't working as expected, it was blowing pretty warm on the way up. Being July, it was critical that I get it fixed before trekking back through the desert in the 110+ degree heat. It is pretty scary when the car gets hot and it's so hot outside!
I stopped into G&G to get the AC charged up, and it was discovered that one of the auxiliary fans that cools the AC condenser was out of order, and the other was working fine. They told me that this was the reason the AC wasn't working correctly. Since I didn't have the time on the first visit to take care of it, I paid them $160 for the AC charge, even though the work they did wasn't helpful.
On the way back to my hotel, I noticed the car was overheating (this was a new problem). Not only that, but the AC was now not working at all, immediately after I paid them $160 to fix my AC! It had gotten considerably worse. When I finally opened the hood, neither auxiliary fan was working! I guess they didn't think that was worth mentioning (did they do it on purpose?).
Next day I figured out that the good fan wasn't working because a fuse had blown. I replaced the fuse which caused the good fan to come back on, and called them to schedule service to have the bad fan replaced. I called a couple times, and they called me back, and on a voicemail, they quoted me $409 to replace both fans. So I called them back to schedule the service. The man on the phone was rude, stating that I had called 3 times. That seemed weird but ok.. Then I asked why we had to replace both fans when only the one wasn't working. He told me the good one was going to go bad soon. I guess his money-colored crystal ball told him so. I said that was a risk I was willing to take, and he quoted me about $300 for just the one. I said ok and we scheduled it.
About 20 minutes later they called me back, and told me they would not replace just the single fan, that I had to replace both, and that if I wanted my car to be fixed, that I had to either do both fans or go somewhere else! Never in my life! I was being extorted, but since I had no other options, I agreed anyway. I was very upset but stuck. Did I mention how hot it was outside? lol
About 20 more minutes passed, and they called yet again to tell me that they weren't able to get the parts until the following week, which meant that I wouldn't be able to get it fixed in time before going home.
I was so disappointed, and the whole time felt like something wasn't adding up. Why was the guy rude on the phone because it took a few calls to connect? I called my mechanics in California and Kansas, and both of them told me that they'd be able to get the fan delivered the following day, no problem. Since G&G does a ton of business, I could only muse that they were lying to me. We found parts in California and Nevada easily that could be delivered quickly.
So then, knowing that I could get the parts, I called G&G back and said that I could get the parts, how much would labor be to put the parts in? This seemed to catch them off guard.
After some hem and hawing and a bunch of uhhhh ummmm, and being placed on hold a few times, they told me that they would NOT help me! Unbelievable.
Todd J's story is similar, although he didn't dig as deep as I did. My advice: these guys are scammers.
