| - This company came out to look at my water heater, at the request of my home warranty provider. The guy showed up in a dirty white unmarked van and just left it idling while he looked at my water heater in the garage. After looking under the water heater for a minute, he said "you need new one". He then called some guy and just handed the phone to me. The guy on the phone tells me he will come out and repair the wet drywall because the warranty won't cover that. I told him my husband is fully capable of making the repairs himself and I didn't ask for him to be called. Well, about 3 days later, I finally got a call from the warranty company saying they approved the new water heater, installation, disposal, and permit fees, but, I was responsible for paying the fees to bring it up to code (say what???) CNJ told the warranty company that they needed to install a new pan, a drip line, about 15 ft of pipe run to the exterior of the house, and a pump...all to the tune of about $1000!!! So, I promptly called the City of Scottsdale Building Code Hotline (480)312-2633 and explained the whole situation to them. They told me that the code work they were trying to charge me for was for "new construction" only and a straightforward replacement would not require any modifications whatsoever. I then called CNJ directly to give them this info and ask them to modify their work order. They told me that the City was wrong and that's the work they needed to perform, otherwise, their license is on the line! What a load of BS! I've since had another company come out to do the replacement and they confirmed no modifications were necessary. I hate that predator companies like this take advantage of unknowledgeable customers. I would advise steering clear of this company and, by all means, if something doesn't seem right or way overpriced, please get a second opinion and do your homework!
