| - On getting my car inspected (elsewhere) a few months ago, the mechanic noticed that the flange connecting my exhaust to my muffler was rusting out. (In fact, there were already holes such that my muffler wasn't doing much 'muffling' at all.) Since I passed the inspection regardless, I decided I would take care of things later.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago, I come to find that the bolts holding the flange together have rusted all the way through, and my exhaust system is dragging on the pavement. I called around, but since it was Memorial Day week (4 business days + nearly the end of the month) most people were swamped with inspections. Al (who answered the phone himself) told me he had a spot for me, but that it wouldn't be done within the day. Fair enough, so I got the car over there (exhaust system held together with a metal coat hanger) and arranged a ride for work the next day. Al called back with an estimate about an hour after I had dropped the car off, and I told him to go ahead. The next morning, before I had even gotten all the way to work, I got a call back and was told my car was ready (I could've easily shown up to work a bit late and forgone the ride!). The cost was dead on to his estimate, and everything looks great.
In summation: Quick work, honest time and price estimates, no BS and easy direct communication with the mechanic himself. About all I'd want from a mechanic. I'll likely return for my next inspection.
