So I've resisted any actual major to-dos at the Burgundy Lion for some time- this can be attributed to the abundant presence of smiley, child-wheeling blond and attractive 30-something Little Burgundy gentrifyers who seem to loiter outside the restaurant during prime brunch hours while they make their over-elaborate goodbyes to one another.
All hating aside, these breeder brunchers and me have one major thing that makes us different: they're never hungover and child-free like I'm hungover and child-free during brunch.
I was really asked to up my game when my friend insisted on reserving a table last weekend. And it was lovely- there was a soft snow storm blowing outside keeping the place relatively quiet and the service was good. I had the English Toast with boudin. The crumpets, while great, could not compare with the boudin which was to die for. I don't know why I would eat anything else for breakfast.
The humble three stars can be attributed to the moment I looked up from the R-rated conversation about a wild weekend I was having with my friend to see a child no more than two starring at our animated table. I have pretty defined feelings about places that welcome young families and vulgar 20-somethings with breakfast cocktails, and then place them side-by-side.
Booze and kids in the same place: it just ain't right, son.
