| - Enjoy being scammed? Well I have the apartment for you!
Before I get to the meat and potatoes of this review, let me start off by saying I truly enjoyed my residence here. From the day we signed the papers, to the day I moved out, I was pleased with living here... right up until it came down to settling our security deposit.
I forget her name in the office but she has the strong British accent... she was always super friendly and helpful and always remembered me by name. I can't say the same for the rest of the office staff because they never seemed to know what they were doing so I'd ask to speak to aforementioned lady.
Living accommodation is outdated but in decent condition. I had several yet minor issues with my unit but it was all fixed in a timely manner. While it was very infrequent, I had occasionally spotted beetles in our apartment. Most annoying would be that every couple weeks, the water would be shut off for hours. Neighbors at least on the side I lived were pretty nice.
Now to the reason why I rated this complex a one star and why it's a disgrace that they're still in business...
Upon moving out, my roommate walked through with a maintenance worker and no damage was pointed out. We left the apartment in the exact condition that we received it.
Twenty-one days after our move out date, my roommate and I received an email from Linda Simao, the property manager. The email included a letter which was dated for 8/23/17 but we only just received it on 9/14/17. In the letter, Linda explained that we owed for damages done to our unit and that the outstanding balance was due within 30 days of the date on the letter. There were pictures that were attached to this email which were very obviously not our unit as the carpets were VERY dirty and the layout did not match our unit.
My roommate followed this up by calling Linda. Judging by how she treated him over the phone, I think she has a better career future as a preschool teacher. She admitted that those were the incorrect photos and also stated she had no documented proof that our unit was damaged despite claiming all of the carpet in our unit had to be replaced. At this point, we threatened legal action and Linda retorted very childishly telling us to do so.
I followed up myself two weeks later and just got nowhere once again with Linda who was very incompetent and just looking to keep up this scam. All she provided me with was an invoice that they replaced the carpet in our entire unit, no actual proof that it HAD to be replaced.
The sad part is, I feel like they do this all the time hoping people wouldn't realize the mistake. The fact that they sent us an email almost a month after the dated notice tells me they knew exactly what they were doing... not giving us a chance to dispute it before it goes into collections while blatantly trying to scam us.
Anybody reading this, I -STRONGLY- urge you to look elsewhere. There are better, more updated apartments in the area for the same money. Not to mention, judging by other reviews I've read, they pull this scam quite often.
Also if any of the management reads this- these practices will catch up to you eventually, just know the only reason I didn't take you to court was because I live across the country now and it wasn't worth my time to fly out and miss work. Trust me, I would've loved to spite you.
