I went to the HALO shelter on 27th Ave in July. I saw my kitten that i wanted to adopt on 07/03. The following day being the 4th I had to pick him up on the 5th. Fine. When i get back to see him and take him home, they tell me "Oh we forgot, he has kennel cough and needs medication". Okay no problem since the medication was being provided. Now, my spouse and I don't have much expendable cash so we worried about possibly adopting a sick pet and not being able to care for it. Now, we have that exact problem. Luckily i have a decent vet who is helping me out but not without a struggle. I have already spent $1,500 this month on caring for my kitten. Not only did he have kennel cough, but he also has parasites. Coccidia. The shelter sent me home with paper work that states he is parasite free. I finally called HALO this morning (12/14) to find out if there is something they can do for me or give me any advice or references. Since they are unable to do much of anything, I asked to please make sure they keep the facility clean because both of these issues that he has is due to cleanliness. I have been fighting this parasite since August and we are not winning. Medication after Medication. The girl i spoke to told me " We usually have them checked before they leave. We don't release sick kitties for adoption". Well YOU did. Not only that, they have no compassion for the animals life and the fact that there are good pet parents out there who want to provide a loving and comfortable life for their pet. They only want you to open up your wallet and pay their absurd fees and offer minimal information and documentation about what the animal has had and has not had. My vet also said that my kitten was neutered way too early and microchipped entirely to young. I am a huge believer in animals deserve love and compassion. They are living beings that cannot speak to us and tell us what's wrong. We rely as a society on organizations like this one to provide compassionate care and honest answers and paperwork for the pets they have. They do not.
