Recently restored and reactivated as of last month (just in time for the annual Arts Festival), The Point State Park Fountain is one of Pittsburgh's most majestic landmarks. The water that bursts from it comes from an underground, millennia-old 4th river, shooting up to 150 feet in the air, creating everflowing arches of white spray.
I like to think of the fountain as complimentary, its mists wafting through the park, becoming more intense as you get closer to its center, relieving the oppression of summer heat.
It is the mighty Ohio's glistening crown and a tribute to the power and beauty of that essential chemical compound. All of our city's residents should be celebrating the end of its 4-year layoff.
