| - Right, so I'm genuinely a little saddened to be leaving HI Toronto. It's been my home away from home for the past three weeks and, if we're honest, it's a fucking superb hostel. Sorry in advance for the profanity, but let's call a spade a spade here. In fact, I can't think of a single bad thing about it. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are nice and there's always a pretty nice spirit and atmosphere about the place. As for the staff, well they're just top class, aren't they? They're all lovely. Allen and Andreas, to name a few, are just about two of the nicest guys I've met in Toronto so far. The manager at my last hostel, in Chinatown, would just grunt when you say hello to him and munch on his Sub of the Day. Friendly staff make the world of difference to your stay anywhere, and HI Toronto have them in abudance.
Oh, and the bar is also very decent. The fusion of guests and regulars makes for a pretty good time usually. If you're a solo traveller then it's pretty much a certaintee that you'll get chatting to the people downstairs. The staff down there are gorgeous, the food is tasty and the alcohol is a little more reasonably priced than a number of other bars in the area. It's great, but if you want to simply chill out then there's a couple of very comfy - probabaly too comfy - couches upstairs, where you can mess about on your gadgets or simply zone out whilst watching the music channel on the wall-mounted plasma television.
Plus, they play Red Hot Chilli Peppers pretty commonly after 12 or 1am, so if you don't think that's another huge positive then, I don't know, fuck off probably. My only criticism is the fact that I'm probably not getting a leaving party thrown for me, but other than that, I don't have a bad word to say about this place. As I said, top class.
