| - I guess it is all a function of the people you meet at La Casa Narcisi. Knowing that we didn't want to drive curvy Rt. 910 in the dark, we went to LCN for an early Saturday dinner. We mentioned to both the hostess and our server that we'd never been there before. No worries, neither of them bothered to spend any time telling us anything about the establishment.
When I asked our server for a list of the wines, she suggested I go to the tasting bar where, no kidding, I was greeted with the question "what do you want?" If that question had been accompanied by a smile, it might have been OK. But, I really got the impression I was bothering the staff by wanting to try the wine.
As for the wine - yuck. LCN wine is sweet. The concept of dry . . . apparently ends before the detour on Rt. 910. Lots of people were drinking lots of wine, but it was all . . . odd. The Gewürztraminer was too sweet, with no hint of spice or minerals. The Chardonnay was too yellow and tasted like an eyedropper of vanilla had been added to the glass.
The food was . . . fine. Middling pizza, middling pasta.
I watched a couple of servers on the back patio being friendly with customers. It was clear that the friendliness and willingness to chat made all of the difference. Seated inside (with, I'm sorry to say, the dreaded stink bugs) no such effort was made.
Pretty setting, ok food, unfriendly service and really bad wine.
