| - First off, I really like the space that wanderlust has created in Griffintown. Big, beautiful loft spaces with scenic lookouts onto the skyline really do it for me while I'm working out and relaxing. I also really like that they have a gendered changing rooms, as well as a gender-neutral one (yoga for all!). I've found that the front desk staff is really lovely (I suspect some of them are volunteers exchanging their time for free yoga). After signing up for the $35 trial month I was pretty stoked to find a studio close(ish) to home that seemed promising as far as spaces and prices go.
All of this to say that I was kinda bummed when I had a really frustrating class. Bear in mind, while I've done yoga for years I was starting off just with the intro yoga classes to get a sense of the style at this studio: Wanderlust is particular in that they do very little demonstrations for poses- they encourage people to follow along to the verbal directions rather than to constantly look at an instructor. This is fine, except that I was having a particularly hard time following the instructions of one instructor (which to my defence were in a combo of French, English, and Sanskrit). She started to become visibly frustrated with me and at one point went to so far as to ask me, "Did you not understand what I said or are you just trying to do your own thing?"
Hardly zen, man.
At the end of the day, I don't think this verbal-style is for me. Additionally, it's hit or miss how many English courses they have on a given day. I'd proceed with caution to this studio and (maybe) try their one month trial.
