| - Let me first start by saying, my weight loss journey has been a long, but fruitful one. Diet after diet after diet. I finally got it together and went from 311 to 165. Slowly but surely, over the course of a year, I went back over the 200 mark that I swore I'd never hit again.
I would yo yo and cheat. 10 up, 10 down, but just could not get the motivation to get back down to my goal of 175 to 180. 6 weeks before I am scheduled for a cruise, I looked at my summer clothes and said enough is enough. This is when I found the Transformation Camp in Gilbert.
After extensive research, I signed up. My first interaction was extremely rocky as I got turned away from a nutrition class that they rescheduled after driving a hour and 15 minutes. I also noticed they sold a lot of their own items like protein powder and supplements, and I was truly worried they would "push" their products on me.
Diet for me, is not hard. I know what works and what doesn't for my body. I truly believe that everyone has different needs in what diet works for them. Whether that is physical or psychological, you have to find what's right for you.
I hate to exercise. In fact, I used to joke that I was allergic to it! But in all seriousness, this is why I came to the camp. The trainers were awesome, and having to be held accountable was exactly what I needed.
The only other issue I had in the 6 weeks had to do with not following the camp's diet. After being unsuccessful with their diet for 2 weeks, I let my rep know I would be returning to a ketogenic diet so I could lose the weight I needed to. She was fine with that. As a person who loves to cook, I posted some of my food pics on my Facebook (not tagging anyone in the camp, only my own page). I then got called out in the class for eating cauliflower, which at first was very embarrassing, but became the "I will prove you wrong" mentality. (I'm extremely stubborn).
I then got a message from a director, again telling me how unhealthy the ketogenic diet is, and again, embarrassing. As a nurse, I have years of education in nutrition. As an intelligent woman, I also read validated studies. This made me very upset. I reminded him I signed up for exercise and was not mandated to follow the diet. The most ironic part of all this, is when my fellow challengers still had 10 or less pounds to lose on the last week, they were put on "tilapagus", which, will cause ketosis, the base of a ketogenic diet. This way, the challengers had a better chance of dropping the weight to overcome the challenge. I found this to be hypocritical to downing my ketogenic cycling.
Okay, let's get back to the good stuff. Phenomenal trainers. Seriously loved them all. Amazing gym staff to guide you the whole way. High, positive energy that you can just feel when you walk through the door. Never thought I'd enjoy group exercise, but it was awesome.
Final note and advice: would I do it all over again? YES. Would I do it differently? Yes. I made the mistake of not really getting serious until the last 3 weeks. No good for anyone! I would love to stay on as a member, but with a family of 6, it's just not the right fit to keep us all active. However, I will keep so many of the lessons I learned to keep myself healthy and fit. Thank you Transformation Camp! 21.4 pounds in 42 days was awesome!
