| - One of my close friends had a wedding here last weekend. It was a beautiful garden setting for the outdoor portion, in a closed off area off the parking lot. The trees of the ravine provided a beautiful backdrop, and as a guest you forget that you're in the heart of the city.
The reception was held in the Vaughan Estates, with a lovely entry way for guestbooks, seating cards and other fun things. There's a small sitting room which was nice for guests, and another room that was used for the buffet lunch. With lots of different nooks in the house, the wedding flowed quite nicely into the main reception hall, with the exception of the bar, that seemed a bit hidden. (maybe a good thing).
The dance floor was a decent size, even though it seems small, and had even room for a small band! It's proportional to the number of people that can fit in the room.
The food was really good, and nothing short of the expectation of my foodie friend. I was disappointed then some of the cold appetizers were actually very cold. As if it came out of the fridge, and was served without letting it warm up to room temperature. Once put on a plate with other hot foods, the hot foods became quite cool too.
For the dessert table, there was a great assortment of treats. There was a creme brulee in chinese spoons - but again was prepared ahead of time, and cold. A little disheartening.
Like with other "by consumption" services, all our drinks was cleared ridiculously quickly. It's always extremes with wedding venues, but this time I didn't get it.
My coffee disappeared 3 times in the course of 30 min (but my wine left untouched). I got one before dessert, and then after I came back from getting dessert, it was gone. I got a 2nd one, and went off to chat with some people. At some point it disappeared again! Then my husband got me one, and after some dancing, it was gone. His beer also disappeared quite frequently too. I'm not sure if this was because of the "by consumption" service or they were just in a hurry to clear the room for the next wedding?
We looked at Sunnybrook Estates for our own wedding. It was a bit small for our party size, and I wasn't a fan of the narrow room personally. It was a bit far away from the head table and our head table needed to fit 12 people. My friend had only her MCs and herself/husband at the head table.
I would say the venue is perfect for small wedding, and was especially well suited for the small lunch wedding last week!
