| - My company held a sales meeting here- I was here for four nights.
The property is sprawling. They have vans to take you around, but they're not always available and my room was in the back, which meant going up/down two hills whenever I wanted to go anywhere. I even carried my luggage up these two hills at check-in, because there were something like 40 of us checking in at once and I figured it was better than waiting. The rooms in the back are a long hike from the main part of the resort - I wore sneakers every day rather than the heels I had packed. The layout of the buildings themselves is odd... our CEO likened it to M.C. Escher's "Relativity", that painting with all the staircases going around. And yes, there's even a staircase to nowhere behind the lobby, just off the pool. I asked about it and was told it went into the lobby before the Starbucks was put in, and that blocked off what used to be an entrance. To get to meeting rooms in one building, I had to take stairs to 2 and then an elevator to 3, as I couldn't find the stairs from 2 to 3. The rooms have exterior corridor entrances, and the lighting's not the greatest either (but the property feels safe). My room had two queen beds and one blocked the doorway. Layout is probably better in a king room. Furnishings were decent, I think some rooms have been updated, and beds were comfortable with lots of pillows.
The pools looked nice, though it was too cold for us to do anything other than have an impromptu poolside meeting at one point. Food service was okay - desserts were good but some of the fish and chicken items fell flat. Property was very clean overall and all of the meetings/meals seemed to be set up efficiently.
The property is ideally situated for exploring the Phoenix Mountain Preserve trails, with Shaw Butte off to one side and a connector trail to Lookout Mountain to the right. They are not particularly strenuous trails for hiking, and the mountain bikers I saw on them looked like they were having a lot of fun so they seem great for biking.
