| - On service...
I just bought a new car and want to have my old sub & amp installed. I went in yesterday afternoon and asked how much they would charge and how long it would take. The fellow behind the counter, as he ate a bowl of Chinese food, said that it would be $70 for the wiring kit and $70 for the install, which could be done if I came back Sunday (today) at noon when they open. Today, I got their fifteen minutes before they opened, went inside when they unlocked the door, and was told that they couldn't do it today and to come back the next day. When I said I was told just the afternoon before to come in today at noon they claimed that they've been booked through the weekend, and looked at me as if I were lying... as all three of them began to eat their breakfast on the counter in front of me!
On quality...
A couple years ago I had the Cactus location install a stereo for me and I kept having problems with the unit shutting off randomly after a couple months. I took a look at the wiring and it was a HUGE mess. Instead of using a wiring harness they had cut each cable a few inches before the factory harness and spliced them together with electrical tape instead of cable splicers. I took it in , showed them, and they fixed it for free. I don't know where they get some of these "technicians", but I judge from what I've seen that they are high school and college students that they hire to pay low wages, and are probably put through some Audio Express training program (which apparently consists of Do Whatever You Need To Get The Job Done).
On pricing...
Do this, when you go in to Audio Express use your phone to access a shopping website (like shopping.google.com) and search for whatever product you are looking at. Then subtract the cost of the product from what Audio Express is asking for, the result will be the true cost of your "$1" install. For example, if I get decent grade wiring kit online (SITE: Amazon.com) it will only cost me $25, for a kit comparable to what Audio Express will sell me for $70.
