  • I've been going to this office for OB appts for a few months now and am looking for a different provider (2 months before I give birth). The front office staff is great, and NP Patricia Janicek is nice and is willing to educate patients (2-3 visits with her), but I still feel left out in the cold by this office. Maybe it's because I'm on AHCCCS, but I'm a first time mom and, for the most part, I feel like a number in this office. I saw Dr Mayes a few times and she seemed to have no interest in educating or even informing me about my pregnancy. They just take your weight, have you pee in a cup, listen to the baby's heartbeat, ask if you have questions, and then want you out the door. No "your pregnancy is progressing well" or updates on how your weight gain is going. I've had to ask for that information and got very short answers. I get more information from my What To Expect When You're Expecting book. Very clinical, seemingly no concern for the mother or her well-being. Labs are king here. So, I'm looking to change because NPs can't deliver, so there is no one in the office I feel comfortable with. The doctor that delivers is whoever's on call (that's a lovely nice-to-meet-you) and they seem to have no desire to build a relationship (or even meet) with patients. I want to feel like I trust my delivering OB and like they know what our point of view is, but I'm scared I will meet a new doctor in the hospital, they will push for unnecessary medical interventions like breaking my water, Pitocin, or even a c-section. I can feel my body tightening up now just thinking about it (pretty much the opposite of how I should feel come delivery time - gotta loosen and open up to let that baby out!). Anyone had an OB they loved who is a part of AHCCCS Care First?
