  • Great atmosphere. Great service. Great Cocktails. Delicious food...Aggressively, absurdly small portions. Here's my theory, places like Forequarter and Heritage Tavern are trying to keep their dollar sign rating on sites like yelp to "$$$" rather than having a "$$$$" rating to draw a broader crowd. They don't want any one item on the menu to break a certain price point. But Forequarter is actually a "$$$$" place in the Madison scene. To leave here full, you'll need to share a cheese or meat plate ($10-$13), get an appetizer ($8-$16) which they say you can share, but you cannot. Then you'll need an entree ($18-$23), and then finish with a dessert ($10). Don't forget a cocktail ($10) or a glass of wine ($9). This ends up being far more expensive than a place charging $35 for an entree. So, when all is said and done, it ends up feeling unwelcoming. It's hard to figure how out to eat correctly on the menu if it's your first time, because you'll have a hard time guessing just how much you need to order. And, whenever something is brought to the table, you won't think, "Oh, wow," I think, "Seriously?"
