| - My folks were in town for a 3 hour layover. So I took them for dinner here, since it was near the airport, and got good reviews.
When we walked in, the first thing that hit me was the dank smell. It made me wonder if their fish tank was leaking, or had leaked in the past. This put me off a bit. But I went for it anyway.
Like a dope, with Helen's translation in hand, I asked for the Chinese menu. The owner (?) told me it was integrated into the new menu. I flipped through it and disagreed. But then realized I am an idiot, because the new menu does contain everything, just the order and wording are different.
We started with cold, smoked fish. It was interesting and unusual. But surprisingly good.
Then we had a Happy Family hot pot. I'm not sure what all was in it. It looked like krab, shrimp, fish, and something else. Maybe it was squid? It was a curled, white, mostly flavorless flesh, spiny or scored on the outside. It also contained baby bok choy and water chestnuts. The broth was a bit bland.
We followed that with steamed pork dumplings. The filling was rather tasty, and full of green onion flavor. Their skins were a bit thick, yet tender.
Then came the crispy duck. It was awesome. As far as I could tell, all they did was salt it and deep-fry it. Really that's all it needed.
I was pleased. My folks were stoked. Over all I'd say the meal was a success, and after the first 10 minutes, I didn't even notice the smell anymore.
