This place opened yesterday and is set to have its grand opening this Sat with all types of things going on. Sat's event will include an actual coffee roasting demonstration and live entertainment.
When I arrived I learned that Steel Valley Roasters has an individual who goes directly to farms in El Salvador to get the best local farm sourced beans to make some of their finest blends. Their objective is to craft coffee. They have an in house roaster and I got an opportunity to meet and chat with one of the co-owners named Sean. He showed me the bags where the coffee is imported from and then I had the opportunity to see one they opened that showed me the actual beans. On the sales counter top they have jars which show the transition from the raw beans to the find roasted blend.
The sell 3 different types of coffee here but they are planning to introduce more. In addition to coffee they have espressos, lattes, pour over, cold brews. All the usual stuff you are familiar with. In addition they sell teas and ice tea if you want that. There was a refrigerator off to the far side with other beverages in it but I didn't get a chance to look inside.
The counter ladies were very helpful in recommending a blend to me. Their most popular is called the "Steel Valley" blend which is a mixture of the two light and medium roasts they were making today. They did apologize for the fact that the coffee wasn't quite up to tasting temperature so they brewed me another cup fresh and hot.
In addition to your drinks they sell specialty bars, microwave cereals and pastries from three fifty bakery located above the Southside area. I have had threefifty pastry before and believe me it did not disappoint. I had a pumpkin pecan bar and decided to get a bag of their fresh coffee. They will grind it for you if you wish but it is sold as a full 16 oz bag.
Right now they explained that they take cards only. They are not set up for cash. They have WiFi for the working. Passcode is available upon request.
I sat down at their request and they brought my coffee and treat out to my table. This place occupies a large space. Sean explained to me that their goal was to reach the Homestead community as opposed to being out on the Waterfront since they are a small business.
This was one of the best cups of coffee I had. Fresh from their grinder. Prices here are very reasonable and cost depends upon the size you order.
They have a gender neutral restroom in the back and I love looking at the different artwork and the old time fire engine on display. Staff was very friendly and I learned a lot about how their business got started. They can host events due to their space. Located on 8th Ave near the Homestead hi level bridge, metered street parking is available.
Looking forward to trying Finca jazmin blend I purchased for home use. A must return when I visit the Waterfront or Homestead area again!
