| - When those of us in Hawaii call LV the 9th island, I feel like the basis of all that starts with The Cal.
Growing up, if you're on a family vacation with people who just want to gamble (but have kids), there's a good chance you stayed here. Especially with the Vacation Hawaii packages, The Cal seems to be a #1 spot for Hawaii residents. Between The Cal, Main Street, and Fremont, don't be surprised if you see other Hawaii locals (friends, aunties, uncles, cousins, neighbors, coworkers, etc). Some family members of mine even had school reunions here.
When you're 21, the strip calls, and you want to do the LV nightlife experience. Fast forward a few years, you're over it, hate the crowds and prices on the strip, and you're right back here in downtown, playing blackjack until 4AM, and being so happy at the end of the night that you can just go right up to your room without having to walk for 10mins to your elevator.
The service here has always been 5 star worthy, from what I've seen. This is the casino I learned all my table games (at 2AM because I was to shame to do it when other people were there), and the dealers were always helpful and nice about it. I like tables, but I've won a couple of progressive slot payouts here too (nothing to put me in the news lol). The other hotel staff feel like your aunties and uncles back home, and will sometimes even ask if you know so and so, or will remember you because you come back so frequently.
There are a few restaurants here (one 24hr), and a closed walkway over to Main Street hotel. If you're over the strip scene, come out to downtown and give The Cal a try!
