| - As of 8/2016, Cafe Zoma is one (of two!) neighborly walk-to-work (or bike...it's off the bike path with bike parking!), coffee shop! Coffee and scones for dayyyssss. Yessssss.
Let me be honest, as I have crowned myself Madison's local "coffee king", I have never been thrilled or pleased with Espresso Royale in the least. Cafe Zome NAILS IT AND BRINGS HOME THE BEANS! Delicious and utterly unexpected. 8/10 visits the coffee is brewed well and tasty! Caffeinated and decaf alike.
On top of the coffee and espresso drinks, delicious and healthy smoothies.are available.
Okay. Brace yourself! This is coup de resistance. SCONES. Easily in my top 5 in Madison. I have yet to find out if there are year-round seasonal options, but fall and winter deliver. Fall offers pumpkin scones, and they're LEGIT. Winter has me "nom-ing" on gingerbread scones. Sugary, caloric realness served with a side (or two or three) of caffeine.
Oh by the way, Cafe Zoma also has tea. Let me know how it is! ;)
What's keeping Zoma from a 5th star? Two things, really. Warm or more welcoming seating options. The spacious interior (toward the back) has fun, interesting local art displayed all year-round, but the seating is cold and a bit small. Spring for a couch, a few larger tables and a warmer color-scheme and you have a nicely spruced, Atwood-themed neighborhood coffee shop. Sandwich and food options could be expanded too. It's tough because I realize there isn't space for this to happen. All too often I'll buy a generic sandwich in the morning or as an afternoon walk-in, take it to work, and come lunch time, it's soggy. Maybe better, local bread and leave out the watery parts of the tomatoes, friends.
PS - Daily specials! Free shot of espresso, $2 medium lattes, $3 Chai days are permanent. Check out the tips, social media pages, etc. for more!
