A Great Manager Makes a Greater Restaurant Experience:
We ate at La Cave last night. It was amusing that most of the patrons resorted to smart phone flashlights in order to read the menus as the dining area is rather dark. The food is quite interesting with multiple flavors blending together in original ways to make each small dish a unique taste experience. We enjoyed the deconstructed Caesar salad in which a wrapped layer of prosciutto added an interesting angle. We particularly enjoyed the crab ravioli. My wife was less enchanted with the mushroom and truffle grits although I liked it enough. We ordered four plates and two wines. The drinks and first three dishes arrived promptly. Then something went wrong (who knows what) and we waited and waited for our fourth dish. After a very long time sitting in the semi-dark of this establishment a waiter brought a plate of crusted ahi tuna to our table saying compliments of the house. We enjoyed it well enough. A few more minutes later the manager, Rich, came to our table apologizing profusely for the delay and saying it was unacceptable. (I politely agreed with him.) He then offered to buy us two more glasses of wine and said he would adjust our bill. He recommended two interesting white wines to accompany our soon to arrive shrimp with shishito peppers. Our waitress Melissa was also great. Personable and sympathetic to our less than stellar dining experience. Rich came back to our table a couple more times to check on us. He personally supervised my perfect decaf espresso (also gratis) so I could be sure to sleep last night. My wife and I decided to split a dessert of beignets with three sauces. Delicious although not Cafe du Monde (but amazing for Nevada). At the conclusion of our two hour meal we were presented with a remarkably adjusted bill. We were very pleased with the way Rich and Melissa saved our dining experience.
