| - With a big-box store review, sometimes it's hard to know where to focus. Prices, selection, and products? This store is the same as every other BB&B. (Three stars, Four stars, and all over the place, respectively.) I'd like to talk about why I give *this* location four stars.
Attitude: 5 stars. I've had to return items here, and it was quite painless. I suppose the fact that I've had to return items at all is telling, but BB&B is very gadgety, and gadgets can be hit or miss.
(Word to the wise: don't bother with the tall, black, high-end humidifier that claims to work on "just" distilled water if you live somewhere with tricky water, like we do here in Las Vegas. We still ended up with a white dust over everything in the entire house that was difficult to remove. The staff told us we weren't the first to return it for the same reason. So why sell it in the Las Vegas market? I suppose that decision is probably out of the hands of the local staff, and at least they make returns easy.)
Organization: 3 stars. I can't remember the last time an actual cash register was open. Instead, this location prefers to do all transactions at the customer service desk. It didn't used to be that way, but now there's always a line-less mess in front of the customer service desk. This week I actually saw a register open... long enough to issue someone a refund. Then the cashier walked away, and the two people in line (I was one of them) were left to eventually wander over to the throng by the customer service desk. BIZARRE.
And while I was there, a man without purchases was asked by a roving manager if he could be helped. The man said he needed customer service. The manager tried to help him right there, but it turned out that he had to wait behind everyone making purchases. Actually, I've gotta knock "Organization" down to two stars. This is a pitiful setup despite the rest of the store being nicely arranged.
Clearances: 3 stars. This week I noticed that the store now has two clearance racks. There's the usual one between bath items and personal products, just past the (ghost town of) checkout lanes, and there's also one at the end of that aisle, at the back of the store, by bedding.
The clearance prices tend to range from "Are you kidding? I could get that new on Amazon for less!" to "My preciousssss!" (I got lucky this week with a half-priced hot drink mixer/frother/maker that only had a damaged box.) Perhaps as more people get smartphones and use price checking apps we'll see better discounts appear here, but this section is always worth checking out.
Promotions: 5 stars. This may be a non-local issue, but I do appreciate those "20% one item" (and so on) coupons that seem to come pretty regularly. (But not so regularly that I feel like I may as well wait for the next coupon before I can shop here.)
I almost gave this BB&B three stars just because it does get so crazy when you want to check out, but the lines move fast, and I'll forgive much if the staff is friendly and eager to help, which these guys always are. (But not too eager - never have to worry about hoverers when I'm trying to decide on the perfect flour sifter.)
Bonus shopping tip: The Fresh Wave odor-eliminating gel they sell is pretty amazing, and I say that as a person living in a multiple hamster household.
If you've done your price comparison research and if you brace yourself for the weird logic of checking out, this is a pleasant BB&B to visit. It looks good, the people are nice, the shelves are stocked, and parking is easy.
