| - I am in the military and was stationed in Japan for a while. I was excited knowing I'm coming home. The first thing I did was to look for a house. And this is what I experienced...
I am one of the clients of Ms. Lauren, the agent of Highland Collections (one of the communities of American West). We have been working with Ms. Lauren since August 2017. My girlfriend and I fell in love with one of the model homes of Highland Collections. Ms. Lauren discussed the process with us. She suggested if we're really interested in purchasing the house we should put a deposit as Ernest Money of 3K. Before I gave the check to Ms. Lauren I made sure I am pre-approved for the loan because I don't want to waste my time and anybody's time. Ms. Lauren made some phone calls and she got hold of one of the American West Lender, Michael Vestuto. He checked my credit and said, it's workable and can use VA loan. I wasn't convinced and asked Ms. Lauren again, not just once but many times and in numerous occasions, "Is he really sure?' And each time, Ms. Lauren said, "Yeah, that's what Michael said. And if anybody can do it, it's gotta be Michael". Ms. Lauren spoke highly of Michael and she finally convinced us. We gave the deposit money, signed the contract and started the upgrades selection. At current, I have deposited $2,700 in upgrades. We have met and sat down with Michael in his office before he went on vacation. He reviewed my credit to finalize my VA loan application. He asked to email him the required documents for VA loan. And again, I asked and Michael said, my credit is workable and we will be able to use VA loan. I submitted all the required documents he asked for. Then when he got back from vacation, he told me, my credit is not workable and VA loan is no longer in play. And my only option is to look for a co-signer for my loan or put 25% to 35% down. I found a friend who was willing to co-sign my loan but when Michael checked her credit, he said it's not usable. Then he said, "Sorry, that's all I can do". After all the false hopes and guarantees that I was promised that I am able to purchase the house, was all vanished in thin air, just like that! And this is all in-house transactions by American West! To date, I have deposited a total amount of $5,700, wasted my time and got misled for several months thinking I can purchase a home. Since I didn't get approved for VA loan, I asked Ms. Lauren to cancel my contract with American West. I also asked for my money back since ALL these isn't my fault. I wouldn't cancel my contract if everything would go as promised and guaranteed. Couple weeks ago, Ms. Lauren informed me that I won't be able to get my deposit back.
I emailed David Welsh, VP of Sales a week ago and told him my story. To this day, I haven't heard from him or anybody at American West.
It is sad to think that a known Builder like American West do business unprofessionally --
* tricked people to believe they can buy a home then take their money and never heard from them after that.
* gave false hopes and promises that they can't keep.
All I'm asking is, I want my money back since this whole charade isn't my fault. I was hoping I could resolve this matter as soon as possible but no one from American West got back to me. These guys don't even deserve a star!
